Stuff I’m Asked a Lot
-
What’s with the name?
You’d be surprised how often I get this question. Pop Stalin Design came from a misspent youth as a band member. Long story short, the band I was in needed to change our name and this was a name I came up with but was rejected by the rest of the band. I liked it and kept it for my future business venture.
-
Do you only do websites?
Pretty much. I know my strong points and logo/ad/flash design aren’t among them.
-
What do I get?
Back when I had a full-time job and did web design for extra money I used to give stuff away for free. Now that this is my full-time job, the only thing you get for free is the proposal. That said, you won’t often find me going outside of the agreed upon quoted costs; even if I go over. If a misquote a project, that’s my problem, not yours.
-
Do you offer hosting?
No, I don’t. I’m a web designer and don’t know much about web hosting other than what is needed to get a website working on one. My web hosting is handled by HostICan and after a year of uptime—meaning my site has never been down that I’m aware of—I would recommend them to clients as a hosting option.
-
How much do you charge?
Visit this page and read why I can’t definitively answer that question. I can give you a ballpark figure though.
-
Do you use Web Standards?
Yessiree Bob! I wholeheartedly believe in them and design sites with web standards in mind.
-
Do you use templates?
Not unless you insist. You’re paying me not only for my coding skills but my design skills as well.
-
What forms of payment do you take?
All kinds; I use Paypal for electronic payment and I also take checks/money orders. Although I don’t do any work until a non-refundable deposit is received (or a check clears).
-
How long will my project take?
That depends on the scope of the project, my schedule and you. These matters are discussed prior to signing a contract for my services.
-
Am I your only client?
Not unless you’re paying me enough to pay all my bills for the month. Generally I carry 2-3 projects at a time.

Why WordPress?
Why not? It’s free but most importantly, in my experience, it provides the most intuitive administration section for those that aren’t as web savvy as others. Plus the folks behind are into the Web Standards ‘thing’ and that’s always good to base a foundation on.
